Here Chick Chick...

We're so excited to announce the newest additions to our farm! I'm not sure if this is a farm 'project' but certainly our first farm related activity in our new place.

BABY CHICKS!!!

In the past, we've ordered our chicks from the Medford Grange Co-op. This year we ordered them from our local Grange Co-op in Central Point - since it's right around the corner from our house. We also picked up a pair of Speckled Sussex from Coastal in White City (it's a farm & ranch store).

Here's what we got:

2 Americaunas - they lay blue eggs (my favorite)
1 Plymoth Barred Rock (PBR) - they lay light brown eggs
2 Welsummers - they lay dark brown eggs
1 Cuckoo Maran - they lay really dark brown eggs
1 Buff Orphington - they lay light brown eggs
2 Speckled Sussex - they lay light brown eggs
...for a total of 9 chicks!

Come late summer/early fall we should have 11 laying hens. We're going to need some help off loading ALL THOSE EGGS!

Wait! We haven't snapped the picture yet!..chicks are bailing out of the butter dish.

My daughter, Tristin, putting a Welsummer chick to sleep. This chickie looks dead, but she really is just sleeping. I promise!

Playing with the chicks.

Um Dot, you're interrupting Buffy's photo shoot...

It's hard to get a picture with ALL NINE chicks, unfortunately this picture isn't a very good one!

More to come. We still have a few chicks left to name. Later this spring I'll be modifying the chicken coop to better fit our flock. I think we'll have another go at a photo shoot with the chicks, that should be fun...Have a beautiful day!

Getting Settled..

I'm not sure how this happened, but moving day was TWO MONTHS and ONE WEEK ago, today!

We're starting to get settled into our new home. Making a list of projects both indoors and out. We had our first out-of-town guest come and stay with us this week - my Mom! She loved the new place, as do we.

The views are just gorgeous and it's hard to stop staring out the window to get anything done around here, ha!

Here are just a few pictures of the house, property & views:

Where'd all this stuff come from?...

Tristin gives the new house two thumbs up!

Our new place came with a chicken coop & a water-plumbed, two-stall paddock!

The chickens seem to like their new coop!
